On Wednesday, May 3, 2017, Lesby, a 22-year-old woman, was found dead in the gardens of the UNAM (between the Faculty of Chemistry and the Institute of Engineering) at 7:00 am, as expressed in its research folder. At that time, no data on his identity had yet been registered, as they didn’t find his identification with him, according to a bulletin issued by the UNAM press.
Lesby was found strangled with the cable of a public telephone booth and presented some marks of blows.
Several hours later, the capital’s Justice General’s Office activated the femicide protocol to investigate his case. Until Thursday of that week was identified by his sentimental partner with whom she had discussed a few hours before being killed (4:00 a.m.) He also mentioned that Lesby jobs was walking dogs near the UNAM south of the city.
The reasons of why are we so enraged/indignant with the Lesby’s case are:
– It is a feminicide committed in a “public” university: the same educational institution that has joined campaigns against gender violence (HeForShe); the same that has signed an agreement, also, against the gender violence between the CNDH and the CIEG; The same one that cackles before the oficial media on the “alternatives of security” around the daily harassment within its faculties, and even, tried to solve the escalation of violence in the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences (FCPyS) installing a system of buttons of aid in the restrooms of the establishment, which has not precisely solved the conflict completely; the same self-exacerbated by inviting doctors, academics and trending figures of international politics to talk about the “question of women” while violence grows in high school, college and faculties like a parasite.
– But this “prestigious” university failed again as in its late process on the mediatic statements by Marcelo Perelló Vals on his Radio UNAM program, which advocated rape and pedophilia.
– The mism management of information by the hegemonic media and the Mexican State -through those responsible for the research- making invisible the femicide of the victim.
– Lesby has been judged by his academic decisions or his personal life (according to his partner and family). Therefore, an attempt has been made to minimize the impact of the event and to cover up the inconsistencies on the investigation.
On Thursday, May 4, from the twitter account of the Justice General’s Office of Mexico City (PGJCDMX) and by the social Communication area of this, information about the personal life of Lesby was widespread, which caused outrage between mexican society, mainly women, activists, feminist groups and individualities, reacting with pronouncements and thoughts to protest with the #SiMeMatan in digital media such as Facebook and Twitter. Around 20:29 p.m. on Thursday, Rodolfo Ríos, the head of Justice General’s Office, issued a public apology to the statements about Lesby that he has admitted, are contrary to the protocol and principles of the PGJCDMX.

We will build justice from autonomy and out of their buildings full of impunity, corruption and structural violence.
We go to the front of this contingent to take to the streets and to protest where it is necessary, but not alone, but strongly accompanied by our companions of fight and all the consciences of the world that repudiate this murder and the thousands of women buried in clandestine graves, thrown to rivers, dismembered, disappeared, imprisoned in the prisons of the Capital State and all those who daily endure violence in the streets, workplaces, schools, public transport and family.
